- Responsible Executive: Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
I. PURPOSE
The Promotion and Tenure Committee is composed of tenured, full鈥恡ime faculty. Its purpose is to evaluate applications for promotion and tenure and make recommendations to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.
II. DEFINITIONS
- Tenured Faculty - Faculty members who have been awarded tenure under the provisions of TBR Policy 5.02.03.70 and 石榴视频 Policy 5:02:03:00. Tenure is an assurance of continued employment during the academic year for an indefinite period, subject to dismissal for adequate cause or financial exigency.
- As defined by 石榴视频 Policy 5:02:01:00, full-time faculty are those appointed on regular appointments (not temporary), typically responsible for teaching a full load of credit hours or equivalent responsibilities. These positions may be tenured, tenure-track, or non-tenure track.
- Promotion - The advancement in academic rank based on the criteria and processes outlined in 石榴视频 Policy 5:02:02:30. Promotion is a recognition of professional achievement and service to the college.
- Tenure -The status of a faculty appointment that has been awarded following a probationary period and review, signifying continuing employment and academic freedom. Governed by 石榴视频 Policy 5:02:03:00 and relevant TBR policy.
- Faculty Council - A representative governance body of the faculty responsible for shared governance, including participation in committee elections and input on academic matters.
III. COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIPS
One member shall be from each academic department (recommended by the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and appointed by the President). One committee member shall be a full鈥恡ime tenured faculty member elected by the Faculty Council and appointed by the President.
- COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Upon receipt of the applicant submissions, the committee conducts a review of candidate submissions for promotion and tenure as outlined in 石榴视频 Policies 5:02:02:30 and 5:02:03:00. Following the committee鈥檚 review, the committee shares its recommendation with the Chief Academic Officer.
- Organization
- The Promotion and Tenure Committee shall hold its organizational meeting by February 15. During this meeting, the following shall be accomplished:
- Election of a chair;
- Election of a recorder;
- Identification of all applications for tenure to be received from the EVPAA;
- Identification of documents necessary to make recommendations (e.g., applicant documentation, results of faculty evaluation, and other information related to criteria to be considered); and
- Determination of committee procedures.
